Ex-S.C. mayor pleads not guilty to federal charges
(The Associated Press) A former South Carolina mayor who pleaded guilty to misconduct last year has pleaded not guilty to Social Security fraud charges against him.

The Morning News of Florence reported Friday that former Latta mayor Alan Lenneau Berry is charged with theft of federal government funds. He's accused of taking around $129,000 in disability benefits while he was mayor.

Huntersville bomb threat a false alarm
(By Steve Lyttle, slyttle@charlotteobserver.com) Huntersville police have given an all-clear after a bomb scare earlier today in an area of new houses on the southeast side of town.

Police were called to Gibson Drive about 11 a.m. after someone discovered a suspicious package near a portable toilet. The object was in a residential area under construction, near Warfield Avenue -- east of Old Statesville Road (N.C. 115) and south of Gilead Road.
