NASCAR drives into debate on ethanol
(By Bruce Henderson, bhenderson@charlotteobserver.com) NASCAR is racing into the debate over ethanol, the American-made fuel that's hailed as a step toward energy independence and derided as a boondoggle that may drive up food costs. The teams in Charlotte this week will burn an ethanol-gasoline blend called E15, which NASCAR is using this season for the first time. The 15 percent ethanol fuel was recently approved for use in most passenger vehicles and is expected to be available at pumps by late this year.
