The Wimpy Kid is back with another movie, this one has him facing challenges at home. Will this sequel be as popular as the original ? That endearing underdog middle-school kid faces another round of humiliation, this time in “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules” .
Zachary Gordon reprises his role as Greg Heffley. This time the drama revolves around his home life, his parents, and his mean older brother, Roderick, played by Devon Bostick. The positive response generated by the original film should give this sequel a boost with the public but don’t expect it to do as well as the first. The wimpy kids tends to be too wimpy in this one and his parents seem more juvenile than him. The older brother bullying bit is a running gag that becomes a tad tedious.
Racheal Harris and Steve Zahn, the parents in the film, never really reach their potential as they mug their way though almost every scene. The Flick-o-meter gives “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules” a fair three out of five. I’m all for movies that kids can watch and learn from and there are some nuggets of wisdom here ,but the clownish music and below par production of this film don’t help matters. Now you know before you go.
