A father's love

A father's love

We heard saws and hammering in our neighbors yard and had to inquire. At first I thought they were building a doghouse, then it kept getting larger! That’s when we ventured over to check things out and see what was taking place.

Our neighbors, Jeff and Chris Guralski, are nice people. Jeff has worked at a local factory here in Wausau for the last 25-years. Like most Americans the last few years have really made life challenging. Work hasn’t returned to the pace it use to be like and he’s still sent home with little notice. We’ve often talked about hanging in there and trying not to get discouraged. Each spring we kind of meet up along the back fence and talk about new projects in our yards. We’ve known each other about 10-years now.

When his vacation arrived this summer the family decided to stay home. Usually they pile things into their van and hit the road.  Not this year. They decided to use the saved funds instead to build their two boys a fort. One of the kids had been picked on at another one in the neighborhood and Jeff wasn’t going to put up with it. He decided to build them their own fort. They would build it as a family together.

It was inspiring watching the family work. Their uncle Blake joined in to help and soon it was sitting upright on secure posts. Jeff and Blake slid the fort up using a winch from a small fishing boat trailer and slowly inched it into position. His sons secured bolts, made the ladder, and before you knew it they were hauling things into it. They quickly wrote the rules on the wall and who was in their new clubhouse.

With Fathers Day Sunday it reminded me why Dads are remembered. Little things like this (and not so little), done as a family, are nice to see. The forts not complete yet, they still want to put a small solar light in it and sand on the bottom. Today a window gets put in and another coat of stain.

His wife, Chris, shared with us that this was always on her “bucket list” for the kids to experience. It was interesting watching the dynamics play out once the kids called it their own. The rules, no spitting or fighting, haven’t changed much over the years. No girls are allowed accept for Mom of course. She doesn’t even have to use the secret password.

Happy Father’s Day weekend everyone. I know, as a father, that the jobs a tough one at times. Most the time we have no idea what we’re doing but we try. The last few days we’ve seen one go the extra mile, without leaving his yard. Good job Jeff and family!

DOWN/STAY COMMAND c Begin with your dog in

DOWN/STAY COMMAND c Begin with your dog in a SIT/STAY position, on your left side. c Place your left hand palm down, pinkie toward your dog, around the leash. As you kneel on your right knee, slide leash through your hand until your hand is touching the dogs neck. c As you say "__________, DOWN" (command tone), begin to apply pressure on the dogs right shoulder with your left hand. Gently press down while pulling back simultaneously, as you give the DOWN hand signal with your other hand. You may also pat the ground as you give the command. c Once your dog is in the DOWN position say “STAY" (command tone) and begin to move away. When he breaks the STAY use a quick SNAP toward the ground as you say "NO!" (correction tone) Give the STAY command. Repeat until your dog remains in the DOWN position until you release him. c Your goal is to be able to step over your dog while he remains in the DOWN position. Note: The DOWN command is an act of submission for your dog. This is by far the most important command your dog can learn. It is mandatory that your dog master this. Remember: Make it fun! Deaf Dog Remote Vibrating Collar Deaf Dog Remote

Deaf Dog Remote Vibrating Collar Deaf Dog Remote Vibrating Collar - I have used a remote collar that vibrates when you press the transmit button on the remote. I have used the vibration as the dogs name and or as the marking of a behavior. However there are some problems with using these collars. Some dogs are very scared of the collar. They have never felt something like it before. So I like to hold the remote collar in my hand and lightly hold the collar against the dog and activate the collar when the dog feels the vibration give the dog a treat. After doing this until the dog starts to expect the treat ..then and only then put the collar on the dog. Then start to use the collar then treat...collar then treat...collar then treat. Then start using the collar to mark behavior I like to start with the look command. When the dog looks at your face remote and treat. The remote I like is the 175ncp dogtra collar http://betterdog.com/Products/dogtra.htm Are about 175.00 and work well...

Trace Adkins: The man, the album, the truth

Narrow escapes have famously been Trace Adkins luck in life – his most recent being the house fire that claimed his Tennessee home on June 4. After reassuring fans that he and his family were safe, the Country star redirected offers of support he received to those hit by recent floods and tornadoes in the South, asking instead that support be sent to the American Red Cross.

During an up close and personal interview with this Country Music superstar at his farm outside of Nashville, the city to industry royalty the likes of a Dolly Parton, Willy Nelson, Garth Brooks and Reba McEntire, Adkins was introspective, humble and surprisingly shy.  In fact, he remarked that his shyness is often mistaken for being unapproachable or stand- offish, “ I am not the kind of guy who will enter a room and want to get all the attention.  I would much rather just find a quiet corner and sorta’ blend into it all”

But with the release of his newest album, Proud To Be Here, announced in front of thousands of fans on Saturday night during Adkins’ 13th consecutive CMA Music Festival performance at LP Field in Nashville, TN, he could not talk about his connection to the present fire that devastated his home and stole from him some of his most precious things without being clearly affected by the event.

“My home is in shambles, the first two levels burned up bad, the basement is still there, but the smoke and water just about ruined it so for me that house is just gone.   I lost everything I had in there, we will be able to save some of photos we stored in the basement.  They got really wet and ruined but I am told they have people who can repair them.   I lost my awards, Harley Davidson bike and a photo of me and Dolly (Parton) that meant everything to me… But I am blessed, I have my family, my kids and wife.   They are safe and that is all that matters.   I try not to think about it, I try not to think about what could have happened and how alone I could have been, how I could have lost my children, my wife… What happened was terrible, but I am lucky, I am luckier than many and I know it.   I can rebuild, I have work, I have a job… Life is crazy and I am just the luckiest guy in the world.

Adkins is lucky and he was genuinely moved by his recent brush with death and equally as hopeful and excited about his new album. “Proud To Be Here has a few surprises for my fans, some people are still shocked when they hear me singin’ the blues…But, I come from the Blues, the Blues are in me and I grew up with them.  This album is full of my signature sound, but sometimes the vocals stand alone and the Blues in me just have to break out and be heard.”

When asked if he has any regrets, anything that he would like to change, Trace got very quiet and very serious, “ I found fame later in life and made a lot of good friends before my music really took off, now sometimes the people I called my friends seem like they don’t know what to do with me or how to handle me.  I haven’t changed, but they have.   I am the same guy I was before all of this, but some folks who would have taken a bullet for me seem to feel like now I am someone different…. I’m not, I am me and yeah it hurts t know I can’t go back so I look forward and remember all the good things and all the good things I can do with my ‘fame’.  I can make a difference, I can help people and I can teach my kids how important it is to be good to people.”

Anthony Weiner, Social Media And The 2012 Elections

Anthony Weiner, Social Media And The 2012 Elections

One of the top issues for Roberta and I for the 2012 elections are the 'lies' and 'fibs' that seem to come from both sides of the aisle, year after year. It can be sex scandals, war, and other issues - but when will this ever end?

The seven term congressman Anthony Weiner (D - NY) with an eye on the mayor's race for 2012 in NYC finally admitted his alleged 'fibs' today, in a  tearful news conference. Yes, he said, 'the tweet' came from him. And, the married Mr Weiner admitted that the college coed he was following was one 'of at least six' woman  that apparently also like hot dogs.

Arnold, Tiger, Charlie, John and all the others seem to share one common trait: The power of the Internet and social networks. Once it is posted, it can be traced though IP adresses and other means - and the posts will be in the public eyes forever.

If they were smart, these people would not share these embarrassing pics or videos thru social media. And when caught, the offender should admit guilt immediately and move on - it's the lies that the American People will not stand for. Yes, some recover some of their careers, but the rising star rarely is the same as before.

So, this WeinerDog is now well done. When you eat a weiner or hot dog on the Fourth of July, remember him - and watch your treats - oops, Tweets. And remember these incidents when you vote in 2012...Honesty is what America needs from its leaders!

Check out our dog Porsche and the cat Tornado going for their holiday wieners - or winners?... For 2012...Politicians should be smarter then our pets!
